F18 over Bucharest Sep 20 2008

We took a little ride today, and to our amazement we saw an F18 (assume F18) Fighter Jet flying over head.

What we proceeded to see was a truly amazing pilot putting his machine through its paces.

In the video clip below, you can just about make him out, he’s a little black dot! But pay special attention to 1min 1sec into the movie, center of the screen.

I am still in awe by the way this guy flew. Top marks to him.

Does he by any chance fly for Tarom too?

Back to Flickr Sep 19 2008

When I first joined Flickr it was back in August 2004. I even secured the url /lee to begin with. Everything was great.

But then, when I needed to renew my Pro Account the only option was to use Paypal. But as I was/am in Romania, Paypal for me was not an option. So I deleted the account.

TWO DAYS later they implemented a payment gateway which wasn’t Paypal! Damn it.

Anyway, I have begun to use Flickr again. Here is a picture I took recently. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to attend Formula 1 in Hungary in August.

Be sure to stop on by my flickr page here: http://flickr.com/photos/wilkinslee

Canon 5D Mark II Sep 17 2008

If you’re a wannabe digital slr owner like myself then you need to check this out:

Engadget: 21.1MP Canon 5D Mark II with HD Video

Of course, if like me, then you would have been looking at this pre-5D Mark II:

DPreview: 12.3MP Nikon D90 with HD Video

Canon were lacking behind with the D90 announcement. But with Canon announcing an extra 8.8MP and a price tag of a mere $2,699 (body only) then the Photography wars have just begun!

Goldbach Media Group Acquires ARBOmedia Sep 17 2008

Switzerland based Goldbach Media Group announced yesterday that it becomes the largest shareholder in ARBOmedia.

According to the Goldbach Press Release (pdf link) the offer price of €9.80 a share represents a 47% increase on market-value. More importantly Goldbach will possess a 72.7% majority in a dominant Central / Eastern European market player. Goldbach also announced its rapid growth plans for CEE.

So far its sounds like a good deal for Goldbach. But wait. In 2007 ARBOmedia posted revenues of €76.6m but “owing to exceptional items” posted a loss of €6.5m. So a 47% above-market-price valuation on top of a €6.5m loss / €76.6m revenues, is a golden deal for ARBOmedia.

I’m guessing its the German mentality of doing business, but “owing to exceptional items”? What are these items?
