Medifast Review

by Forget Milk

I’ve never been a fan of the one size fits all miracle diets because most of the time they’re expensive junk, but my one possible exception is the Medifast plan which has been clinically proven to help people lose weight in big numbers. The Medifast plan is a low-carb, high-protein diet with an allotment of approximately 800 to 1,000 calories per day which allows you to lose anywhere from 2 to 5 pounds every 7 days without counting calories, carbs or fat grams.

The plan is pretty expensive, so you better plan on spending around $300 a month (or more) but nothing good comes cheap right? Do yourself a favor and use a Medifast coupon code on your next Medifast diet order because you can save a decent chunk of money or get free shipping or whatever. Hey, cheap diets are better than expensive diets right? Got off on a tangent there, back to Medifast…

Now I know some of you may be younger, and there are mixed reviews whether Medifast should be used for children and teens, so please check with your doctor before you try anything because only they know how you work and what makes you lose weight, ok?

What attracts many people to the program is the way it works with very little personal decision necessary other than selecting 5 meal substitutions per day from Medifast’s eggs, oatmeal, chili, soups, pudding and bars along with your choice of a green salad or vegetable and one product of 5 to 7 ounces of fish or lean meat. When deciding on your choices of fish or lean meat keep in mind it needs to be baked or broiled, boiled or poached, or grilled.

Brussels sprouts, carrots, corn and peas, and potatoes or onions should be avoided as they are high in carb content. Also banned are alcohols, dairy, all fruits, grains, any sweets and most fats. You should also have an intake of 64 ounces of fluids daily.

A sample of a daily meal is as follows:
• 8:00 AM – Medifast oatmeal
• 10:00 AM – Medifast nut bar
• Noon – Medifast soup
• 3:00 PM – Medifast chocolate shake
• Supper – 3 servings of vegetables, plus one protein
• 8:00 PM – Medifast pudding

When deciding upon your lean or green portions of the meal keep the poultry to skinless and meats lean. Salads should contain no more than 2 cups of greens and ¼ cup of raw veggies. Cooked fibrous vegetables should not exceed 1 and ½ cups.

Another positive feature to this plan is that it can be adapted for teens and seniors, vegetarians, after pregnancy weight loss, gout sufferers, as well as weight reduction surgery.

The success of Medifast diverges according to the stages of the program and what types of physical activities you participate in.

The standard expenditure for the meal replacements run about $80 per week or $300 per month depending on what meals you are ordering. Do not forget to add in typical costs for your lean portions and vegetables for the greens. Another aspect about Medifast is that you will not need supplements while you are partaking in the diet.

Medifast has been around for over 27 years probably due to the fact that this diet program is simple, straight forward, and really works for those needing to lose sizable weight.

The Atkins Diet is a low-carbohydrate diet, which in addition to being pretty awful overall, stresses eating lots of lean meats, leafy greens, vegetables and healthy oils while eliminating high carb foods (think regular breads, pasta, soda, potatoes, etc from your diet.)

By restricting carbs that impact high blood sugar, the diet has been known to help people decrease or eliminate medication treating diabetes through changing their lifestyle to this low carb diet. The diet has lots of support mechanisms including several books written on the subject, recipe books and products like Atkins Cuisine, Atkins Advantage snacks, Atkins Daybreak and Atkins Endulge snacks.

The Atkins brand itself has Ready To Drink Shakes that are full of protein, low sugar and have 24 vitamins and minerals. They come in a variety of flavors including Milk Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, Strawberry, Vanilla and Mocha Latte. The shakes make a great meal replacement and they are creamy and delicious.

Atkins Daybreak is a variety of shakes and bars which are a great light breakfast or mid-morning snack. Flavors of the bars include Cinnamon Bun, Apple Crisp, Blueberry Almond and Chocolate Oatmeal. The bars are a good source of fiber, taste great and are a satisfying breakfast. Daybreak Shake flavors include Strawberry Banana, Wild Berry, and Creamy Chocolate. At only 140 calories for 11 ounces and filled with protein Daybreak Shakes are a great way to reach weight goals. The shakes are creamy, delicious and convenient.

Atkins Cuisine features Atkins All Purpose Bake Mix, a low-carb mixture of wheat gluten, whole grain soy flour, modified wheat starch and unprocessed wheat bran. This mix is great for making breads, muffins, pancakes, biscuits, and even cookies. The Bake Mix is a great item to have when you’re craving fresh baked foods and keeps you from getting the feeling of being deprived of a particular food. Atkins Cuisine also features Atkins Penne Pasta, a low-carb pasta made with soy flour. The pasta is a really good dish with a low-carb sauce.

The Atkins Endulge Bars are a delicious treat and satisfy a craving for chocolate and dessert. With flavors like Peanut Butter Cups, Chocolate Coconut, Chocolate Creme Sandwich Cookies and Peanut Carmel Cluster, they make a great snack, while being low in carbs, but great in taste.

Many find the Atkins Diet is easier to do than most because of all the really good food choices available. Atkins makes it easy with great shakes, breakfast bars and snacks available.
